EDITING

Due to the corona (COVID-19) virus, production and editing have faced many challanges. The university has had to be closed own and the rest of the country is in lockdown meaning that everything that has been planned must be cancelled. Luckily I had finished all my filming just before the outbreak. However due to not being able to go into uni and upload my footage there, I had to store my footage on the only thing I had that was big enough, as my laptop is not in working condition. My housemate has allowed me to use there laptop when I need it as they dont have deadlines soon. I saved all the footage from one camera onto my hardrive and then handed it back to stalls before lockdown. My hard-drive has now crashed with the project saved on it , and with no way to go to a repair shop to fix it I have had to make do with all the iPhone footage and footage from my own DSLR camera meaning that most of my footage is gone as I only used the DSLR for second angles. Luckily I used the DSLR for BEAAUXX's interview as a second angle, however the I used the mic on the other mic so the sound is not great but i will try and fix that through editing. A lot of the things I wanted to include in the documentary I could not, and there was a lack of cutaway footage. There will only be one angle of the performance and no cuts due to this as well. However because I have all the footage for the music video at the end im very excited to make that look as best as I can as I feel as though editing music videos is my strong suit, Im going to make sure to edit it all on beat and also add rapid cuts back and forth to make it look like an effect.

BEAAUXX GOING TO UNIVERSITY

CONCEPT-
BEAAUXX has a tutorial coming up next week, he has already asked on my behalf for permission to film his lecturer and all is clear. I wanted to film this as I want to show the ways in which BEAAUXX   manages to balance his music career with his university degree. He has currently combined them together by making his final project the advertising campaign for his upcoming EP release. I'm going to film him on his way to uni as well as at the tutorial.

LOCATION-
University for the creative Arts Farnham- Graphics Block

EQUIPMENT-
Mini Journalism kit from uni stalls

LIGHTING - natural lighting/ room lighting

PERFORMANCE AT BRIXTON JAM - 7TH MARCH 2020

LOCATION -
Brixton Jam

EQUIPMENT-
Camera-
I am going to take out the Mini journalism Kit as I want all the performance footage to be handheld and the other one would be too big, as well as take my own DSLR camera for shots on stage and offstage. Tom is going to help me and crew and be my second filmographer. I am also performing in a couple of the song so I have a friend who is experienced with filming who is going to attend the show to take my camera from me when I am performing. I will need the mic from the kit to record an interview after the performance.
Zoom-
Because it is a live performance it will be hard to record the audio with the normal mic's that comes with the journalism kit. I asked Sophie for advice and she said the best way would be to get a audio feed from the DJ Decks themselves. I went to equipment hire and asked what they thought would be best and they said that a Zoom mic would be.

LIGHTING -
The lights at brixton jam are good as they are bright and colorful.

AFTER PERFORMANCE INTERVIEW QUESTIONS

  • How do you feel you performed and why ?
  • Was this your first time performing in Brixton ?
  • Are you satisfied with the performance ?
  • Were there any fans in the crowd ?
  • In comparison to previous performances what made that one different ?
  • Do you have any comments on the other artists who performed before / After you ?
  • Was this performance educational in anyway to your creative process ?
  • Do you think doing this is necessary for growth as an artist ?

BEAAUXX SUPPORTING XANDER AT PERFORMANCE - 29TH FEBRUARY

LOCATION-
BAR A BAR

EQUIPMENT-
iPhone - I wanted this performance to be filmed with a lesser quality than the main performance that would be shown at the end of the documentary because I want the last performance to stand out. The iPhone X has very good quality sound and filming but also gives a more homey feel. When watching the lil peep documentary I noticed a lot of the performance videos were filmed on phones as well as the cut aways of lil peep as he is going about his life that his friends might have filmed of him.

LIGHTING
The Lighting from the bar should be fine. I can also use the flash on the iPhone.

MUSIC VIDEO - END CREDITS

For the end credits of the documentary I wanted to incorporate a music video, the music video is going to be for BEAAUXX's song 'I Wish I Was Dead'.

I have booked the photography studio where I am going to film this video, the plan is to make it look like a hospital but also keep it looking like a set, I thought it would look interesting as the studio I booked out has black curtains and big lights which I could use as a spotlight on the 'bed'. There are long tables that I am planning on draping white sheets over to make it look like a single hospital bed, I also found a green room divider that resembles those at hospitals in the photography block.

PROPS:
- Table
- White Bedsheets
- Green Room Divider

CAMERA- from uni stalls
mini journalism kit as most shots will  be hand held (music video style)
no need for mic

LIGHTS-
BEAAUXX is also a student at UCA and is inducted in the photography studios, hes going to help me with the lighting there`

CASTING:
-Xander- an acting student, hes going to wear a mask and linger over BEAAUXX in the bed kinda like a grim reaper

FINAL MAJOR PROJECT IDEA CHANGE

Due to issues out of my control, the show at the O2 did not go as expected. BEAAUXX was unable to perform and the night was generally disorganised, I decided to instead use this night as practice as BEAAUXX had a performance later on that I could film instead. I want to just change the concept of my documentary and make it just about BEAAUXX instead as I feel this will be easier to follow for the audience since none of the artists in OFFTHERAILS have made it in the industry yet, meaning they wouldn't have a fanbase that would be watching, already knowing their characters. Having just one character to follow and get to know would be easier for the audience to follow
